Achieving Platinum: Obitus’ Ongoing Commitment to a Greener Funeral Sector

At Obitus, we’re dedicated to providing seamless, reliable technology so that families can personalise their loved one’s funeral service and honour a life well lived. As we look to the future, we know that how we operate behind the scenes is just as important as the services we deliver.

The funeral sector is evolving, and modern families and funeral professionals rightly expect their suppliers to operate with a deep respect for the world around us. That is why we are exceptionally proud to announce that Obitus has been awarded the Platinum Award from the Greener Globe Funeral Standard.

Our journey from Bronze to Platinum

Our sustainability journey recently took a major, formal step forward when we implemented a comprehensive environmental policy across the business, earning us the Greener Globe Bronze Award.

However, we knew that Bronze was only the beginning.

By reviewing our processes and aligning them with our core Social Value initiatives, we challenged ourselves to push further.

Thanks to the dedication of our team, we have bypassed Silver and Gold, progressing straight to Platinum - the highest tier of recognition within the Greener Globe framework.

What the Platinum standard recognises

The Greener Globe Funeral Standard is a rigorous assessment of how a business operates at its very core. Achieving this top-tier accreditation means our responsible practices have been scrutinised and recognised across three vital pillars:

Three core pillars of the Greener Globe Funeral Standard

  • Environmental Impact: We are taking measurable, transparent steps to reduce our carbon footprint, lower our energy consumption and minimise waste across every level of our business.

  • Supply Chain: Sustainability doesn't stop at our own front door. We are working closely with our manufacturing partners and software providers to ensure the products and services we rely on are sourced ethically and sustainably.

  • Operations: We are embedding green decision-making into the day-to-day running of our offices and our remote support teams, ensuring that our growth doesn't come at the expense of the environment.

Action beyond the office: Earth Day 2026

Achieving the Platinum standard relies heavily on demonstrating actionable Social Value. It’s not just about reducing negative impacts; it is about actively creating positive ones in the communities where we live and work.

A perfect example of this is our team initiative for Earth Day. This year, the Obitus team is stepping away from our desks and heading outside for a volunteer litter-picking day in our local community. It is a hands-on, grassroots way for us to give back, protect our local green spaces, and foster a culture of environmental stewardship within our own ranks.

A truly collaborative effort

You don't achieve a Platinum standard in isolation.

Gathering the vast amount of evidence required and implementing necessary changes across the business has been a massive collaborative effort.

We want to extend a huge thank you to every single department across Obitus, as well as our external suppliers, who worked together to make this happen. It is a testament to what we can achieve when we share a common goal and hold each other accountable.

The journey continues

While we are taking a moment to celebrate this milestone, we view this Platinum award not as a finish line, but as a robust foundation.

Sustainability is a continuous, evolving journey. We are committed to building on this success, finding new ways to improve our social value, and ensuring that as Obitus continues to innovate in funeral technology, we do so in a way that positively impacts both the profession we serve and the planet we all share.
