Preserving precious memories with Keepsakes

In recent years, Keepsakes have gained popularity in providing lasting mementos of loved ones who have sadly departed.

At Obitus, we create physical Keepsakes of the funeral service, Tribute, or both to serve as accessible, tangible reminders of the person’s life and legacy.  Our Keepsakes are available in a range of formats including USB, DVD, Video Book, and Memory Box, and can be personalised to reflect the unique life and personality of the deceased.

It’s understandable to wonder why someone might want a reminder of a funeral, let alone a Keepsake video of it, so here we outline how families use them for comfort and healing during the grieving process.

1. Poignant moments captured forever

After a funeral, we often reflect on parts of the service, such as a lovingly read eulogy, full of memories and anecdotes, or joining to sing a favourite song or hymn. As it’s a day of heightened emotions, its often difficult to recall poignant moments from the day. During times where you would like to feel close to the person you have lost, it’s comforting to be able to hear those stories again by watching your Keepsake of the service.

2. A tribute to the individual's unique life

Creating a Tribute video with a selection of favourite images, timed to a song that resonates with the life lived, is a great way to capture the essence of your loved one and the impact they had on others. Consider images and songs that resonate with the individual's spirit and bring back cherished memories or reflect their passions and personality.

3. A symbol of continuity and legacy

With a Keepsake of the service or Tribute, you can observe anniversaries or special occasions in your own way with your family and friends later down the line, as well as provide a copy for those who could not make the service.

Those that may have been too young to remember or attend the service at the time may also benefit from being able to watch later down the line and listen to stories.  Passing the Keepsake down through the generations can help preserve the memory of the departed and ensure their impact endures within the family. It becomes a treasured heirloom that connects future generations to their ancestry, fostering a sense of belonging and identity.

4. Supporting the grieving process

Grieving is a complex and challenging process, and it doesn’t end with the funeral; it continues as mourners adjust to life without their loved one. Keepsakes serve as emotional anchors, helping individuals navigate grief and providing reassurance that their memories and love for the departed will always remain close to their hearts, long after the funeral has concluded.

Having a tangible reminder of the departed offers solace and support. These physical tokens become treasured possessions that bridge the gap between the present and the memories of the past.

What are our Keepsake options?

We take your Tribute, recording of your service, or both, and create a professionally edited video to be cherished on USB, DVD, Video Book, or as a Memory Box.

The Keepsakes have been designed to be timeless and classic, to fit into everyone’s homes and be durable enough to last. They are wrapped in a soft grey woven linen that sits comfortably on anyone’s bookshelf or coffee table, and each Keepsake comes personalised with your loved one’s name and service date on the front.

The options available give you the capability to watch the memorial video via TV or laptop, or to simply pull out a Video Book and have a moment of reflection there and then. Our USB and Video Books are also digitally unlocked so you can add more cherished memories onto them if you wish.

The Memory Box includes physical photos, as many studies have found printed photos have a better connection to memory because it engages with the brain’s spatial memory networks. This means that for some, physical photos can help with deeper emotional processing. Due to its size, the Memory box can also store small trinkets and orders of service too.

If you feel an Obitus memorial Keepsake is right for you, you can order one through your Funeral Arranger or Funeral Venue.
