The benefits of Live and On Demand funeral streaming
Life doesn’t always go to plan, and when a bereavement occurs, sometimes it’s challenging to get everyone together for the funeral service. While many friends and family will wish to attend the service and say their final goodbyes, sometimes not everyone can make it on the day, whether due to travel challenges, health restrictions, or other reasons.
To help bridge the gap and still give loved ones a way to say goodbye, our Live and On Demand funeral streaming option offers a meaningful way for those who can’t physically attend to still be a part of the service, wherever they may be in the world. While we understand that logging-in to a Live Stream is not the same as being there on the day, for some it can still give the opportunity to say farewell and offer a moment of solace during times of grief.
Live Streaming has grown in popularity since the pandemic, when restrictions made physical attendance especially difficult. Even today, almost 25% of families we support choose to Live Stream their loved one’s service, not only for the real-time inclusion, but also for the ability to watch the service again after it’s taken place.
Why choose Obitus for Live and On Demand
streaming services?
Watch the service recording anytime, anywhere
Our Live and On Demand option gives families the flexibility to watch the service at their own pace. For those who couldn’t attend, it allows them the chance to watch the recording when they feel they can, and for those who attended on the day, they also have the option to watch the service again as many times as they’d like.
When a Live and On Demand is ordered, the service recording is available for up to 28 days afterwards. Once the Live Stream finishes, our dedicated team will process the footage, to ensure the highest quality version is available to watch again within 2-3 working days.
Whether parts of the funeral ran over, or finished earlier than planned, our in-house media experts ensure that the full recording is preserved and ready for On Demand streaming.
This option provides families with the comfort of revisiting the service as part of their own grieving process, or simply as a way to look back and remember the day.
We use a private, secure platform to host all our live streams
All live streams provided by our team are exclusively available on our own website, and are only accessible to families with a unique username and password. These credentials are only received by the Crematoria and Funeral Directors who are arranging the service to pass directly on to the family.
Family members retain full control over who they want to share the details with, choosing whether to share the stream with a select few or a larger group. It's important to be cautious about funeral streaming scams, where fraudulent links claim to require fees to access the stream or prompt you for charity donations.
Obitus streams will never ask users or anyone who logs into a stream for payment, as this discussed directly between the funeral director and family members arranging the service.

Retrieve a service recording at a later date
Sometimes families decide only after the service they’d like to watch it again or even have a recording to keep forever, especially if there was a meaningful moment during the service that they wish to preserve.
Even if a Live and On Demand stream wasn’t ordered prior to the service, our team may still be able to retrieve a recording of a service for up to 90 days after it takes place.
The On Demand option that can be accessed for 28 days can be requested if families are looking for a short-term option to watch the service again. Alternatively, families can choose from one of our Keepsake options, which will let the family cherish the service forever in their chosen format.
With our robust security, flexible viewing options, and commitment to quality, Obitus ensures that every family can honour their loved one in the most accessible and respectful way possible.
