What next for UK funeral venues?
We look to Australia for inspiration.
When our Managing Director, James, took a trip to Australia back in 2019, he climbed one mountain, photographed one world-famous opera house and visited 14 crematoria to see how the Aussies do things differently.
In this video, James shares his insights with our Brand Ambassador, Antonia, and considers how some things that are commonplace in Oz could be applied by the UK bereavement industry.
Here are just some of the different approaches that help Australian crematoria deliver a modern, high quality, end-to-end funeral experience. Not only is this approach genuinely helpful for customers, but it provides the chance for venues to be visible and build strong relationships with their local community.
Small changes, big difference
Inviting spaces
When people arrive at site, maps and digital screens provide information and guide them to where they need to be.
Large screens can also be found in waiting rooms as well as indoor and outdoor memorial spaces, giving families more opportunity to personalise their service.
Tech forms a big component
Reception areas are well designed with a wide range of literature to support customers and visitors.
Meanwhile, appointments to plan funerals and memorials are held in purpose-created, well decorated rooms in the venue.
One stop shops
Additional on-site amenities like cafes, florists, and even children’s play areas are common.
These facilities make it easier and a more pleasant experience for people to spend time in the extensive memorial gardens.
How could you enhance your funeral service?
While it might seem like Australian crematoria were ahead of us when we visited in 2019, many similar ideas are already being implemented by different venues across the UK.
As the way that families choose to grieve continues to change, funeral venues have the opportunity to diversify their own offering – both to meet their customers’ needs and to prosper in this period of unprecedented change.
